Justice on hold: Umar Khalid’s story of resistance

📢 WEBINAR: Justice on hold: Umar Khalid’s story of resistance
For over five years, student activist Umar Khalid has remained in pre-trial detention, from his arrest on the 13th of September 2020, when he was taken into custody by Delhi Police on allegations of having connection with the 2020 Delhi riots and booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). His case became emblematic of how, in India, prolonged pre‑trial detention is used to silence dissent and shrink democratic space.
Dr.Banojyotsna Lahiri (SPECT Research Association), Hannah van Dijcke (Human Rights Foundation), Betwa Sharma (Article 14), and Dr. Ritumbra Manuvie (DAHRD and University of Groningen) joined us on March 17th to discuss Delhi riots conspiracy case and Umar’s five years of pre-trial detention.
