India’s Republic Day: Constitution, Rights and the Indian future

📢 Join our webinar with Prof. Nivedita Menon and Dr. Shamsul Islam, in occasion of India’s Republic Day, to discuss the foundations of the Indian Constitution, the evolution of fundamental rights, and their role in shaping the nation’s democratic future. We will explore how constitutional principles intersect with today’s challenges and what these mean for India’s future as the world’s largest democracy. 

Confirmed speakers:

Prof. Nivedita Menon, Professor at Centre for Comparative Politics and Political Theory, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, regular commentator on contemporary issues on the collective blog kafila.online (of which she is one of the founders), and active in democratic politics in India. Her latest book is Secularism as Misdirection: Critical Thought from the Global South (Permanent Black 2023 and Duke University Press 2024).

Dr. Shamsul Islam taught political science at the University of Delhi. As an author, columnist and dramatist, he has been writing against religious bigotry, dehumanization, totalitarism, persecution of women, Dalits and minorities. He is known globally for fundamental research work on the rise of nationalism and its development in India and the world.
